What I’m Thankful For in 2015

Well this year has passed by in a nanosecond! Here we are the day before Thanksgiving. Publix is a cluster F%*&. My emails are bombarded with Black Friday deal teasers and this year, due to my complete insanity and quest for home ownership I now am working a second job IN RETAIL. HELP ME!

As much as I can go on about the craziness of the season that is about to ensue, I wanted to write a quick post about what I am thankful for. Why, because that is what we as Americans do. We stop for one day and say what we are thankful for only to flip the script and became ravenous holiday shoppers until we pass out or have mental breakdowns before Christmas Eve.

Any who, I myself have a lot to be thankful for this year.

I am thankful for my family and friends and their health.

I am thankful for my husband and kids.

I am thankful that I somewhat have some sanity left (although some would argue that’s a stretch).

I am thankful for wine for allowing me to keep that small amount of sanity.

I am thankful for CARD and my co-workers.

I am thankful for Dunkin Donuts Mocha Macchiato each morning for giving me a swift kick in the arse so that I can function and work each day and be somewhat pleasant.

I am thankful that I graduated from USF and will no longer have to write a paper or take an exam.

I am thankful for my discovery of the TV shows, Scandal & The Royals.

Mainly, and being serious, I am thankful that 2015 has been a great year thus far. I can only hope that 2016 will follow suit.

I wish you all and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!

2012 in review…Welcoming 2013 with open arms!

As I look back on 2012 it was an ok year the best part is the world didn’t end so suck on that Mayans and theorists. There were some high points and some low points but for the most part it was a good year. I look forward to the New Year and what 2013 will bring to my family and friends.

2012 started on a low for me and my family as we lost my Great-Grandmother. She is missed but the great thing is she left us all with so many great memories and so many ‘Hazel moments’ that we will never fall short of having something to laugh about.

2012 was a good year for me academically I graduated from HCC and went on to USF to continue on with my education. I am currently working towards my Bachelors in Communications and my first semester there I did well. I am enjoying being a Bull and I love being part of USF. This past fall, I became active in the Autism Speaks U chapter and became the Secretary of the organization. Now heading into the spring semester and into 2013 I am Co-President of the organization alongside Georgette, a new friend of mine.

Go Bulls!

I also had a great internship this year with the Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce which I am thankful for the opportunity. I met many great people from my few months of internship. I am especially thankful for the friendship that I gained from it. Lauren and I have become great friends with LOTS in common: USF, Communication major, social media, and we love wine. We have a lot of fun and I’m sure it will continue into 2013 and beyond.

Avah is doing great in school and her speech gets better and better each day! She is starting to lose all her baby teeth, she is getting so big and becoming a big girl. I know 2013 she will continue on with her great strides and grow even more. I am so proud of her! Ayden my little whirlwind is my social butterfly. He has so much energy and loves life! I can’t wait for him to start ‘school’ this coming year and see him develope even more. I love watching the both of them play. He has helped Avah so much and though she doesn’t interact much with her peers her love and fondness of her brother is undeniable. ❤

October 20, 2012 was supposed to be Rich and I’s wedding but we had to make the decision to put it on hold. I know one day it will happen in due time. So for what would have been our wedding weekend we went on a fabulous weekend getaway to Orlando and had a great time. We try to at least have one getaway a year and for some reason, so far, it’s always been Orlando. Maybe 2013 will take us somewhere different?

In December of this year I went back to work full -time for the first time in nearly two years. I always said that if I was going to go back full time it would have to an amazing opportunity. I was given that amazing opportunity I was waiting for! I began working at USF on December 3rd as the Program Assistant for the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities. In the past, I have helped guide families to resources and what to do next after the initial diagnosis of autism and I love helping families because I remember being in their shoes not too long ago, so being in this position to help and being surrounded by others in an office that has the same love and passion to help families and individuals with ASD is such an awesome experience. I am ready to learn and grow with this position in 2013.

2013 is going to be great! There are so many great things happening this year! My best friend Brea is set to give birth to a baby soon and hopefully for her sake REAL soon. My other best friend Melodee is set to get married March 9th. She has waited for this day for so long and it’s finally happening. I couldn’t be happier for her and am proud to stand beside her on her big day. I am also extremely excited to be an aunt! My brother and his girlfriend Jessica will be welcoming the newest member to our family in June and I am so excited for them and can’t wait to meet my niece or nephew. My cousin Gabe is graduating high school and will be attending the University of Tampa next Fall. It is crazy how time flies as I remember watching him as a baby and now he is young man! We also have a big birthday to celebrate as Rich will be the big 3-0! (He’s not going to be happy I shared that lol). My babies will be 8 and 3 this year. I can’t believe it. I do believe 2013 will be a great year!

There are so many things great things happening all around me. Looking at my calendar of events and to do’s already makes me tired but it will be worth it. I have a great loving family, my children are happy and healthy, and 2013 will bring many great things our way. I wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Stay safe tonight!

Goodbye 2012 and hello 2013!

As summer comes to an end…

This summer has flown by. Phew! In an exasperated nano-second my ‘relaxing’ summer, that included no college courses for the first time in three years, was over before it started. Perhaps I should have taken a class or two, then it would seem like time was standing still. As I sit back now and reflect on the past three months it was a good summer none the less and enlightened me as a person.

My summer officially began as I graduated from HCC and officially transferred to USF. I have taken this summer to familiarize myself with USF and reached out to multiple organizations that I would like to become a part of. Though I am a mother and upper-level transfer, I want to try and make the most out of my time at USF. I am a member of the Autism Speaks U – USF chapter and am vying for an Executive Board Member position this Fall. I am thoroughly excited to join this group as to no surprise to you the reader, it surrounds me with others for a passion for autism. I will also be a member of Best Buddies which will be another great opportunity to be hands on with students with disabilities. I am seeking to be initiated into Communications Honor Society, Lambda Pi Eta, as well. Fingers crossed! I am excited to begin at USF. I am anxious more than anything. I want to achieve great things; make my mark on USF and graduate feeling like I’ve completed all my goals. The student in me wants to do it all, experience it all, and reach for the stars but the reality is I am a mom first and foremost. So it will be a challenge, but one that I am willing to accept.

This summer brought opportunities my way that allowed me to meet wonderful people and organizations. I began an internship with the Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce in May and what I’ve gained from this experience is extraordinary. I’ve met so many wonderful people from the Chamber. Meeting tons of business women and men from Temple Terrace has helped me come out of my shell and will further help me as a young professional. It gave me the confidence to go forward and go after opportunities. From the internship I was able to become a blogger for Patch.com and make friends within the contacts within the community that I know will better me as a professional and person. With this internship I made a wonderful new friend in Lauren who works for the Chamber office. A fellow USF Communications grad and social media junkie, we immediately clicked. I am so grateful what my internship this summer has brought to my life. It is amazing. Though internships are usually not paid, what you take from them personally makes the effort worth it.

I also had internship opportunity, which unfortunately didn’t work out. However, in the two weeks that I was a part of the organization it was amazing. I met passion driven individuals, like me, pushing for job opportunities and awareness of autism in Tampa Bay. It was an amazing time and again, came in contact with such wonderful people. Being in the café, totally worked by individuals on the spectrum, was amazing to see. To see their passion, creativity, and the light in their eyes to be there and working and being independent was great. It gave me so much hope for Avah’s future. Again, my time was short with Artista’s Café but It was another amazing opportunity that brought so much to my life this summer.

Again, this summer went by quick. It was all-in-all a good summer though. Can’t complain! I’ve got all my books purchased. My planner all mapped out for appointments, meetings, and class times. I’m ready for Fall. Bring it on! There is nothing I can’t do it, the sky is the limit! Until next time……..
